Gives Violin Lessons is a series of conversations between myself and various students, only one of whom seems to be as dumb as a red brick. So far, the feedback from most readers has been that they find the book far too scary to finish; not scary in a horror film sort of way, but in a "it makes me look at myself" sort of way. However, contrary to the predominant feedback, I frequently laughed out-loud whilst reading this book - and so did Khanastenabulat. Come to think of it, Jack's dad told me that he found the book to be hilarious! One of Jack's dad's paintings features in two different editions of the book. On that note, I think we had better discuss the various editions of this book. I'll start the conversation, I think it goes something like this:
Not only is the text only paperback edition economical and sexy (my photo is featured on the cover) it is also a darn good read. But for fuck's sake, get the illustrated paperback edition if you can afford it! The illustrated paperback edition includes beautiful art by my mother, Seaside's mother, Sunflower's father, as well as Jack, Holly and Emily's father. Sunflower's father and my mother collaborated on some of the illustrations. The illustrations of the e-book edition will either be in black&white or colour, depending on your e-reader. And just to be really clear about this, there are no illustrations in the text only paperback edition.
